Pacific Poetry, Culturally Relevant Teaching and Literacy For All Ages
This course will provide teachers with frameworks, strategies, and techniques that are aimed at cultivating student voice, teacher collaboration and arts integration through the exploration of spoken word poetry and literary arts practices of Maui, the Pacific and the world. Teachers in this PD will complete 24 hours of learning through attending three, four hour synchronous online sessions and completing 12 hours of asynchronous work on various related topics connected by this theme and grounded in HIDOE-led Nā Hopena Aʻo or HĀ initiatives.
The three sessions will incorporate the following themes:
- Youth Poet Laureates, Spoken Word and the Culturally Relevant Classroom
- Pacific Poetry for All Ages – Exploring Spoken Word Poetry for all levels
- Past Present and Futures of Pacific Poetry in Maui and Beyond
